Help & FAQ

Quick answers to the questions we hear most.

Getting started

Is it free to join?

Yes. Creating a buyer or trader account is completely free. You only ever deal directly with the other party for the price of the item and any delivery you agree.

What is the difference between a buyer and a trader?

Buyers can bid, buy, watch items and leave reviews. Traders can do all of that plus create listings and run a shop. You can upgrade from buyer to trader anytime in your settings.

Do I need a bank account to use the site?

No. Because buyers and sellers arrange payment directly, you can use mobile money, bank transfer, card, or simply pay on delivery — whatever you both agree.

Bidding & buying

How does bidding work?

Each auction has a starting price and a minimum bid increment. Your bid must be at least the current highest bid plus that increment. If someone outbids you, you are notified instantly so you can bid again.

Is a bid binding?

Yes. Placing a bid is a genuine commitment to buy the item at that price if you win. Please only bid on items you intend to purchase.

What is a reserve price?

Some auctions have a hidden reserve — the minimum the seller will accept. If bidding ends below the reserve, the item does not sell. You will see a note when a reserve applies.

What does "Buy Now" mean?

Buy-now lets you purchase an item immediately at a fixed price without waiting for an auction to end. Some listings offer both bidding and buy-now.

What happens when I win an auction?

An order is created automatically and both you and the seller are notified. You then agree payment and delivery and track the order to completion.

Payments & delivery

How do I pay?

TheAuction.ng connects you with the seller; you arrange payment directly using the method you both prefer — bank transfer, mobile money (M-Pesa, MTN MoMo, Airtel Money), card, or pay on delivery. Online card checkout via Flutterwave/Paystack is coming soon.

Does TheAuction.ng hold my money?

Not currently. Payments happen directly between buyer and seller. Always confirm the seller's rating, keep records, and prefer pay-on-delivery or meeting in a safe public place for local deals.

How is delivery handled?

Delivery is arranged between the buyer and seller. Many traders offer nationwide courier delivery or local pickup — ask on the listing or via WhatsApp before you commit.

Trust & problems

How do I know a seller is genuine?

Check their star rating, read buyer reviews on their shop page, and look for the ✔ verified badge. You can also message them on WhatsApp with questions before buying.

What if something goes wrong with an order?

Open a dispute from the order page. Our team reviews disputed orders, contacts both parties, and resolves them fairly — either completing the sale or cancelling and relisting the item.

How do reviews work?

After an order is delivered, buyers review sellers and sellers rate buyers. Reviews are tied to real orders, so they cannot be faked.

Can my account be suspended?

Yes — accounts that break our Terms, list prohibited items, or defraud others may be suspended. See our Terms & Conditions and Prohibited Items pages.
